One Dead, One in Critical Condition in Shooting Incident

On September 1, 2016 at 0031 hours the Lorain Police Department responded to 3001 Leavitt Road, Apartment B5 for a reported shooting.  Officers responded to the scene and located two males who had suffered gunshot wounds.  One of the males was pronounced dead at the scene and the second male was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center.  The surviving victim was flown to Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland and was in surgery at the time of this press release.


The victims were reported to be brothers.  The deceased male was identified as Jose Morales, 35 years old.  The surviving brother was identified as Angel Cruz, 38 years old.  The circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.


Maurice Kimbrough, 29 years old, was arrested on charges of Tampering with Evidence, Obstructing Official Business, Having Weapons Under Disability and Carrying a Concealed Weapons in connection with this case.

We share public information to keep our community informed and aware of activities taking place both within the City of Lorain and the Lorain Police Department.  Though our officers rely on probable cause to make an arrest, those arrested are presumed innocent until otherwise determined by a court of law.
