Neighborhood Watch Picnic

Don Killinger

A big thanks to all who participated in our first annual city-wide Neighborhood Watch Picnic on August 30, 2008 at Lakeview Park. The picnic was being done to coincide with the annual "National Night Out" effort by the National Town Watch, Inc. This picnic was held to bring our Neighborhood Watch groups together to strengthen the safety of our community and to send a message that we are "Taking Back Our Neighborhoods".

Many people brought their favorite dishes. Neighborhood Watch groups from various places in the city were represented as well as the LMHA's RAW program personnel. The hamburgers and hot dogs were great as well. The Lorain Fire Station sent a fire truck and four firemen to offer demonstrations of the fire equipment. The two Community Resource Officers from Lorain's Police Department helped to make this a success as well. We look forward to next year having our second annual NW picnic held at the same location but earlier in August-coinciding with the National Night Out event.
