Police Officers Honored

The Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) honored Puerto Rican and Hispanic/Latino teachers and police officers in Lorain in separate ceremonies on Tuesday, November 30th.


A small ceremony was held to honor the police officers at Lorain City Hall. Eli Senquiz, the senior community officer, said that thte purpose of the event was "to recognize the job Puerto Rican police do for the community and Lorain."

According to Police Chief Cel Rivera, there are 19 Puerto Rican police officers on the Lorain force. Mayor Craig Foltin, as well as a representative from Congressman Sherrod Brown's office and a representative from Senator George Voinovich's office also were in attendance.

Officers were given a certificate of recognition from the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration, Mayor Craig Foltin, Congressmen Sherrod Brown and Dennis Kucinich, Senator George Voinovich and Governor Bob Taft.

Police Officer Rick Soto said "It's something exciting that the government of Puerto Rico takes time to recognize Lorain officers."
